DE23 Active is a long-term, community-led project based in Normanton and Arboretum, aimed at helping local residents live healthier, more active lives. We offer a range of free or low-cost physical activity sessions and wellbeing support, making it easier for people of all ages and backgrounds to get moving and feel good. By removing common barriers to exercise, we’re supporting the community to make physical activity a regular, enjoyable part of everyday life.
What is DE23 Active?
No special gym gear is needed—just come as you are! Comfortable clothing is all you need, and if you don’t own a pair of trainers, that’s absolutely fine—everyone is welcome. We provide all necessary equipment for our sessions, and if you’re ever unsure about what to bring or wear, just ask—we’re here to help.
Do I need special clothing or equipment?
Majority of our sessions are drop-in, so there’s no need to book, just turn up on the day. . However, some special events or limited-space activities may require registration—we’ll always let you know in advance.
Do I need to register or book in advance?
We’re always looking for passionate community members to help out! Visit our Volunteer Page or email us to learn more about how you can gain experience, support others, and even train to become a coach.
How can I get involved as a volunteer?
Absolutely! Many of our participants speak English as a second language, and we’re proud to have a friendly team of staff and volunteers who are here to support you. Several of our staff volunteers speak Urdu, Punjabi, and other languages, helping to make sure everyone feels welcome, understood, and included in our sessions.
